Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Vol. 1

What home cook would be caught dead without this book in his or her collection?  Not.  Me.  When my mother gave this to me one Christmas I nearly lost it.  I had never indulged myself in purchasing this book.  Upon returning home I immediately opened up the book and began cooking.  A true treasure.

Better Homes and Gardens: New Cook Book, 16th Edition

What better way to round out this Gift Guide for Cookbook Lovers!  I don’t have this copy.  I have my mother’s copy from when she married my dad.  The pages are torn and written on and constantly need reinforcement, there are random recipes stuck in between the pages.  The binding is coming apart.  It’s perfect.

Need more ideas?

  1. I would also suggest the Moosewood Cookbook or the Moosewood Restaurant Cooks both by Mollie Katzen. Most of the recipes are vegetarian but there are a few fish recipes.
